WESTCHESTER/PUTNAM/DUTCHESS COUNTIES, NEW YORK — New York State Police issued 236 traffic tickets and placed 12 drivers and vehicles out of service during a two-day commercial vehicle enforcement detail on the Taconic State Parkway on August 19 and 20, the second such operation on the restricted parkway in less than a month.
Commercial vehicles and certain other vehicle types are prohibited from operating on New York’s parkway system. The detail covered the Taconic in Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess counties.
Results
133 tickets for prohibited vehicle types operating on the parkway.
33 tickets for vehicles displaying painted or affixed signs, names, or insignia on the parkway.
70 tickets for other vehicle and traffic law violations.
21 commercial vehicle inspections completed.
99 FMCSA violations identified.
6 drivers placed out of service.
6 vehicles placed out of service.
A similar operation on the Taconic on July 27 and 28 resulted in 158 citations — meaning the two operations combined have produced nearly 400 tickets in under a month on the same corridor.
NYSP reminded all motorists and commercial vehicle operators to familiarize themselves with parkway restrictions before traveling.
