ROMULUS, MICHIGAN — A Michigan State Police trooper was injured Sunday morning after a semi-truck rear-ended a patrol vehicle on eastbound Interstate 94 near Merriman Road while troopers were blocking lanes for a temporary cable crossing operation.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. on May 10. Two troopers were seated in separate patrol vehicles with emergency lights activated, blocking the right and center lanes of I-94. A semi-truck driven by a 59-year-old man from Ontario, Canada, struck the rear of one of the patrol cars.

The trooper was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Michigan State Police First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said the trooper was not seriously hurt. The semi-truck driver was cited following the crash. Additional details about the citation were not released.

“This is a reminder for all drivers to move over a lane when they see emergency vehicles,” Shaw said.

The crash remains under investigation.
