NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE — A woman believed to be unhoused was killed Monday afternoon at a South Nashville gas station after she was struck by the rear tires of a semi-truck that had been parked at the location for nearly two hours, with investigators saying the driver may not have known she was beneath the trailer when he left.

Metro Nashville Police said the semi-truck, described as a blue cab pulling a white trailer, arrived at the Shell gas station on Fesslers Lane around 12:30 p.m. on August 17. The driver parked to rest and did not get out of the truck. When the driver pulled out of the parking spot around 2:30 p.m., the rear tires struck the woman, who had been sleeping underneath the trailer.

The woman was found with no identification. Police believe she is a 46-year-old woman in her 30s or 40s who frequents the area. The Medical Examiner’s Office is working to formally identify her through fingerprints.

The truck did not stop after the incident. Investigators have not yet located the driver but are working to find him. No charges are expected at this time as the preliminary investigation indicates the incident appears to have been an accident.

The investigation is ongoing.
