CALHOUN COUNTY, MICHIGAN — Two men were killed Tuesday morning after a semi-truck struck them while they were checking a flat tire on the shoulder of Interstate 94 in Calhoun County, according to Michigan State Police.
The crash happened at approximately 9 a.m. on Sept. 1 on eastbound I-94 near 22 1/2 Mile Road in Marengo Township.
Men Were Outside Truck on Shoulder
Michigan State Police said the two motorists had pulled onto the shoulder and exited their truck to check a flat tire.
While they were outside the vehicle, a semi tractor-trailer struck both men, fatally injuring them.
The victims were identified as a 51-year-old man from Grabill, Indiana, and a 40-year-old man from Aurora, Illinois.
Eastbound I-94 Closed During Investigation
Eastbound I-94 was closed at Exit 115 while troopers investigated the crash.
Traffic was rerouted around the area, and motorists were urged to use caution, follow posted detours, and allow extra time for travel.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office assisted Michigan State Police at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation, and additional details are expected to be released as they become available.
