Truck Driver Admitted He Spotted Failed Air Bag, Ordered a Replacement, Then Hit the Road Without Waiting — CHP Grapevine Pulls Truck From Service

GRAPEVINE, CALIFORNIA — A driver admitted to CHP inspectors that he had spotted a failed air bag the day before, ordered a replacement, and then decided not to wait for it to arrive before hitting the road.

The image shared by CHP Grapevine shows a visibly ruptured air bag on the truck’s suspension system — a clear safety defect that compromises the vehicle’s ability to maintain proper ride height, load distribution, and stability.

CHP used the stop as a reminder to drivers: pre-trip inspections exist for a reason. A known defect is not something to drive around while waiting for a part to show up.

“Don’t forget to check your airbags on the pre-trip inspection,” CHP Grapevine said.
