KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON — A semi-truck with brake failure struck up to nine vehicles on eastbound State Route 18 west of State Route 167 near Auburn Tuesday morning, closing all eastbound lanes and sending several people to the hospital — though no major injuries were reported.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson said the collision occurred around 8:05 a.m. near milepost 3. The truck lost its brakes while traveling eastbound on SR-18 approaching the SR-167 interchange and struck between seven and nine vehicles. Several drivers were transported to hospitals. The semi came to rest on the right shoulder.

All eastbound lanes were initially closed with traffic diverted to State Route 181 and West Valley Highway. By 9:25 a.m. the left lane had reopened. Significant delays remained as tow trucks worked to clear the involved vehicles. No estimated time was given for full reopening of the remaining lanes.

Drivers were urged to use caution and expect delays on detour routes.
