SOUTH TEXAS — A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper escaped injury after the rear latch of a loaded dump truck he had just finished inspecting unexpectedly swung open as he crawled out from underneath, sending a load of caliche, a hard, dense soil product, spilling out and nearly burying him.

The trooper was not hurt. The inspection also turned up a weight violation on the truck.

“Every inspection helps prevent serious incidents. Thankfully, our trooper is safe, and the operation continues,” TXDPS said.
