OOLOGAH, OKLAHOMA — A tanker truck driver was ticketed after an Oologah police officer clocked him at 48 mph in a 25 mph school zone, 23 mph over the limit, despite flashing yellow school-zone lights at both ends of the zone.
The Oologah Police Department said the stop happened on November 5. The signs with flashing lights were posted south of the school and twice north of it. The driver got “one expensive ticket and a point on that tanker-endorsed CDL.” In Oklahoma, exceeding the speed limit in a school zone can bring double the original fine.
“Guess all that flashing wasn’t festive lighting after all,” police said.
The department used the stop to remind drivers about the risks of speeding. “PSA: NHTSA reports 11,288 speeding-related traffic deaths in 2024. Slow down, watch for kids and vehicles coming and going from the school, and remember: being late is cheaper than a ticket and a whole lot better than a tragedy.”
Police did not release the driver’s name or say how much the ticket was.
