SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — A semi-truck hauling a large metal cylinder struck the bottom of a Loop 410 bridge on the city’s south side Tuesday evening, becoming stuck underneath and requiring overnight repairs before most lanes could reopen.
San Antonio Police Department said the crash occurred around 6 p.m. in the 10000 block of South State Highway 16 near Loop 410. The truck was traveling southbound on Highway 16 when it passed under the eastbound lanes of Loop 410 and struck the underside of the bridge. The 61-year-old driver was not injured.
TxDOT crews inspected the bridge overnight after the truck was removed. Emergency repairs were completed and Loop 410 remained open to traffic. Southbound SH-16 also reopened. One right lane on eastbound Loop 410 remained closed pending additional repairs.
“Emergency repairs have been completed, and Loop 410 remains open to traffic,” said TxDOT public information officer Jonathan Cotto. Drivers in the area are urged to use caution.
