HERMON, MAINE — A pickup truck that failed to yield while merging onto I-95 in Hermon set off a chain reaction Tuesday afternoon that sent a tractor-trailer and a utility truck across the median and into southbound lanes, striking two additional vehicles — with no injuries reported across all vehicles involved.
Maine State Police said the Bangor Regional Communications Center began receiving calls at approximately 3:52 p.m. on August 18 reporting a tractor-trailer that had crossed the median near Exit 180.
The preliminary investigation determined a pickup truck hauling a trailer failed to yield the right of way while merging from Coldbrook Road onto I-95. The trailer struck a utility truck traveling in the travel lane. The collision forced the utility truck into a tractor-trailer in the passing lane. The two vehicles became entangled and left the roadway together, crossed the median, and entered the southbound lanes. Once in the southbound lanes, the utility truck separated from the tractor-trailer. The utility truck driver then steered back into the median to avoid oncoming southbound traffic. As the tractor-trailer and utility truck separated while crossing the median, the tractor-trailer’s trailer struck two southbound vehicles.
No injuries were reported. Traffic slowed while crews removed the vehicles. The scene has since been cleared and the crash remains under investigation.
