Pickup Driver Runs Stop Sign and Crashes Into Semi-Truck at Iowa Intersection, Then Strikes Third Vehicle; All Vehicles Totaled and 3 People Hospitalized

FAYETTE COUNTY, IOWA — Three people were taken to a hospital after a pickup truck driver failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into a semi-truck in Fayette County, Iowa, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened around 1:13 p.m. on July 27, 2026, at the intersection of Highway 3 and W Avenue.

Pickup Collided With Semi

The sheriff’s office said deputies arrived to find a semi with a trailer, a Dodge Ram 5500 with a trailer, and a sedan in a ditch.

Investigators determined that 20-year-old Diego Ernesto Guardado Tejada of Grandview, Missouri, was driving the Dodge Ram northbound on W Avenue when he failed to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way.

The Dodge Ram then collided with a semi-tractor and trailer traveling westbound on Highway 3.

The semi was driven by 29-year-old Singh Lakhwinder of Iselin, New Jersey.

Third Vehicle Also Involved

After the first collision, the vehicles then struck a Chevy Impala that was stopped at the stop sign on W Avenue in the southbound lane.

The Impala was driven by 28-year-old Seth Reinking of Westgate, Iowa.

The crash involved three vehicles, though the third vehicle was not visible in the released dashcam footage.

Three People Taken to Hospital

The driver of the semi, the driver of the Dodge Ram, and a passenger in the Dodge Ram were transported to Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner.

The passenger in the Dodge Ram was identified as 21-year-old Evanny Garcia of Grandview, Missouri.

The conditions of those taken to the hospital were not immediately released.

“All vehicles involved are a total loss,” the sheriff’s office said.

Investigation Ongoing

The crash remains under investigation.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Oran First Responders, Oran Fire Department, MercyOne Ambulance, Del’s Towing Service Center, B & L Towing, and Iowa Big Rig Service.
