SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA — A truck driver who struck a bridge on Luzerne Street at Railroad Avenue and fled the scene was tracked down a short distance away on North Main Avenue — and what officers found when they stopped him added up to a lengthy list of violations on top of the hit and run.
Scranton Police said the driver was operating on a suspended license. The tractor had no valid registration. The trailer had not been inspected since 2020. And during the investigation officers developed probable cause to charge the driver with DUI, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
“This incident demonstrates the importance of our trained and certified Motor Carrier Enforcement officers keeping unsafe commercial vehicles off Scranton’s roads. The Department remains committed to proactive enforcement and has a zero tolerance for commercial vehicles being operated in an unsafe condition,” SPD said.
