GLENVILLE, NEW YORK — A Georgia truck driver wedged the top of his box truck into the Glenridge Road railroad bridge in Glenville Friday morning, striking one of the most repeatedly hit low bridges in the area despite multiple posted warning signs, telling police he thought the truck would fit.
Glenville Police said the crash occurred just after 8:45 a.m. Curtis Jamar Reed, 39, of Georgia, was driving a 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer westbound toward Rotterdam Junction when it struck the 10-foot-11-inch bridge, wedging the top of the box into the side of the structure. No injuries were reported. Glenridge Road reopened around 11:30 a.m.
Commercial vehicle investigators issued Reed seven traffic violations covering vehicle and traffic laws, local town ordinance for ignoring low bridge signs, and DOT violations discovered during an inspection of the vehicle. The tractor and trailer were placed out of service and were awaiting a commercial tow.
The Glenridge Road railroad bridge has been struck repeatedly by over-height trucks over the years despite warning signs and other prevention efforts.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
