GEORGIA — A strong smell of asphalt was enough to tip off Georgia Department of Public Safety Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers that something was wrong with a cargo tanker passing by — and a closer look confirmed it, turning up asphalt leaking from multiple points on the tank and a driver operating on a disqualified CDL.
The truck was hauling a cargo tank loaded with asphalt when CVE officers noticed the unusually strong odor and spotted hazardous material on the exterior of the tank. The inspection revealed the tanker was leaking from multiple locations. Officers also discovered the driver’s CDL had been disqualified.
Both the driver and the vehicle were placed out of service.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
