LAREDO, TEXAS — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than 3,395 pounds of suspected methamphetamine valued at approximately $30.4 million from a tractor-trailer at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo on October 12 — after an officer flagged a truck whose cargo was listed as salt for a secondary inspection.

A nonintrusive X-ray examination of the 2020 International tractor-trailer revealed anomalies. A physical search found 76 bags of suspected methamphetamine concealed among the salt cargo. The drugs were seized. The driver, tractor, and trailer were released. Homeland Security Investigations is investigating the seizure.

Port Director Alberto Flores said the seizure reflects CBP’s ongoing efforts to keep dangerous contraband out of communities.
