FERGUS, ONTARIO, CANADA — A dump truck driver and his company were hit with 20 charges combined after an Ontario Provincial Police officer stopped the truck in Fergus Thursday morning and found a laundry list of violations — including a driver operating on a suspended license with cannabis readily accessible, improper tires, an uncovered load, major mechanical defects, and a color coating obscuring the interior of the vehicle.

The 41-year-old driver from Parry Sound was stopped shortly after 10 a.m. on October 15. The full list of charges issued to the driver and company included driving while under suspension, possessing a license while prohibited, possessing more than one license, failing to properly wear a seatbelt, driving with cannabis readily available, improper tires, no covering on load, driving a commercial motor vehicle with a major defect, driving with a minor defect, failing to accurately complete a daily inspection report, failing to ensure daily inspection was conducted properly, failing to ensure performance standards were met, color coating obscuring the interior, no name displayed on the commercial vehicle, no currently validated permit, and permitting an unlicensed person to drive a commercial motor vehicle.

“Their actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for the safety of others on our roads,” OPP said.
