SISKIYOU COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — A big rig driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI on the night of August 22 after driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Siskiyou County, forcing multiple motorists to take evasive action before the truck crashed near the Weed Rest Area. No other vehicles were struck and no injuries were reported.
CHP Yreka Division said several motorists encountered the wrong-way truck barreling toward them in the northbound lanes. Drivers who called 911 immediately allowed emergency personnel to respond quickly and get the situation under control before a catastrophic head-on collision occurred.
“Great work by everyone who remained vigilant behind the wheel, took evasive action, and avoided what could have been a devastating crash. We also thank everyone who immediately called 911, allowing emergency personnel to respond swiftly and get this dangerous situation under control,” CHP said.
