SILVER SPRING TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA — A Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee Truck was destroyed and its wreckage scattered across Interstate 81 in Cumberland County after it collided with a tractor-trailer in the southbound lanes Thursday morning. The coffee truck driver was trapped inside but survived.
New Kingstown Fire Company was dispatched at 9:26 a.m. to southbound I-81 near mile marker 55.4, near Exit 57 (Mechanicsburg/Route 114), for a collision with entrapment. Crews arrived to find the coffee truck and a tractor-trailer involved, with the coffee truck driver trapped. Rescue crews completed the extrication at 9:46 a.m.

“With the extensive damage, it was a miracle that the driver was able to survive,” the fire company said.
PennDOT said the crash happened in the backup from bridge road work that was wrapping up. The extent of the driver’s injuries and the cause of the collision have not been released. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating. Fire police were still on scene when the fire company posted its update, with mutual aid from Landisburg, Union, Hampden, and multiple fire police units.

All southbound lanes of I-81 were closed between Exit 57 and Exit 52 (Middlesex), with traffic detoured off the interstate at Exit 57. Drivers were told to expect delays.
The reports describe the date only as Thursday, so I’ve left out a calendar date. Based on the message timestamp it would be October 22, but let me know if you want it added.
