WESTBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS — A 50-year-old Utah truck driver was cited after striking an MBTA railroad bridge on Arch Street in Westborough on Saturday morning, telling officers he was following GPS directions and did not notice the height restriction.

MBTA Transit Police responded at 8:37 a.m. on October 3. The bridge is marked at 12 feet 6 inches. The tractor-trailer sustained significant damage in the strike. Inspectors examined the bridge and deemed it safe.

The incident is a reminder that consumer GPS apps do not account for commercial vehicle height and weight restrictions. Truck drivers are advised to use commercial GPS systems designed specifically for large vehicles.
