MONROE TOWNSHIP, ILLINOIS — Two semi-trucks collided on Interstate 39 near mile marker 112 just before a construction zone on a recent morning, spilling grain across the roadway and causing a temporary closure while crews cleared the scene.

Monroe Township Fire and Ambulance Protection District responded just after 11 a.m. One semi sustained heavy front-end damage. Grain spilled onto the roadway and the road was temporarily closed while crews cleared the debris and removed the damaged trucks. Both drivers declined transport to the hospital.

The crash is one of several rear-end crashes Monroe Township Fire has responded to in the same stretch of I-39 near the construction zone in recent weeks.

Lynn-Scott-Rock Fire/EMS, Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, Cherry Valley Police Department, Illinois State Police, IDOT, and Maggio Trucking assisted on scene.

“Please slow down approaching construction zones, leave plenty of following distance, and watch for changing traffic conditions,” Monroe Township Fire said.
