MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA — Three people were killed and four others hospitalized early Tuesday morning after a car carrying seven people struck a semi-truck near an Interstate 35W off-ramp in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood of Minneapolis, with the car ending up wedged underneath part of the truck.
Minneapolis police said the crash occurred around 4:12 a.m. near I-35W and Southeast 4th Street, just west of the University of Minnesota campus near Dinkytown. The semi was exiting southbound I-35W and crossing Southeast 4th Street when the car struck it. Three people in the car were pronounced dead at the scene. The four others were transported to a hospital. Their conditions were not immediately released. The semi-truck driver was not injured.
What led the car to strike the semi is under investigation. Minneapolis Police Department traffic investigators and Minnesota State Patrol troopers responded to the scene. Southeast 4th Street was blocked near the exit ramp. Southbound I-35W traffic could still take the exit.
