MARLBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS — A Guatemalan national driving a tractor-trailer without any driver’s license made an illegal turn in Marlborough on September 18 and caused a crash that injured a child — and investigators found it was the second time in two weeks he had been caught operating a commercial truck without a CDL. ICE has since arrested him.
Maximo Garcia-Lopez was driving for YMY Transport out of Colonial Heights, Virginia when the crash occurred. The illegal turn caused a collision with a car carrying a child, who was taken to the hospital. The extent of the child’s injuries was not disclosed.
During the investigation, officers determined Garcia-Lopez had no CDL and no driver’s license of any kind. Commercial vehicle inspectors also found 31 violations on his rig at the scene. ICE said Garcia-Lopez had been cited in Connecticut on September 4 — just two weeks earlier — for driving a semi-truck without a CDL. He was arrested by ICE Boston following the crash.
