MARTIN COUNTY, FLORIDA — A tractor-trailer fire near South Fork High School closed Southwest Pratt Whitney Road for several hours early Tuesday morning after crews arrived to find the bed of the trailer partially engulfed in flames and quickly worked to keep the fire from reaching the front of the rig.
Martin County Fire Rescue responded around 3:30 a.m. on September 23 to the intersection of Southwest Pratt Whitney Road and Southwest Bridge Road. Crews extinguished the fire before it reached the cab. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown.
By 7 a.m. Southwest Pratt Whitney Road was closed from just south of Southwest Bulldog Way to Bridge Road. South Fork High School students and staff could only access the school from the north during the closure. The road reopened by 9:45 a.m. and normal access was restored.
