PUTNAM COUNTY, INDIANA — A Greenwood, Indiana truck driver who told troopers he was hauling an empty trailer from Memphis to Indianapolis was arrested Saturday after an Indiana State Police Criminal Interdiction Unit inspection on eastbound I-70 uncovered several duffle bags containing 277 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $3.8 million.
ISP stopped the commercial vehicle on September 6 in Putnam County. During the stop, the interdiction trooper observed the driver, Harpreet Singh, was operating below industry standards and impounded the vehicle. The search turned up 126 kilograms of cocaine in multiple duffle bags inside the trailer Singh had described as empty.
Singh was taken into custody and booked into the Putnam County Jail.
ISP’s Criminal Interdiction Unit operates full-time within the Drug Enforcement Section and focuses on disrupting the flow of illegal drugs and contraband along Indiana’s major corridors before they reach communities across the state.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
