DILLSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA — A tractor-trailer carrying frozen food overturned in a seven-vehicle crash on Route 15 in Dillsburg Saturday afternoon, triggering a mass casualty response that sent 14 people to five area hospitals including two who were airlifted in critical but stable condition.
York County Office of Emergency Management public information officer Ted Czech said the crash occurred just before 2 p.m. The tractor-trailer rolled over and six passenger vehicles were involved. One person had to be extricated from their vehicle. Two patients were flown to hospitals by helicopter. Twelve others were transported by ground ambulance. Two additional patients refused medical care. One of those injured is a teenager. The ages of the other victims were not immediately released.
Route 15 was closed at Mountain Road for nearly nine hours. PennDOT said the scene was fully cleared around 11 p.m. Traffic camera footage showed the trailer on its side at the scene.
Carroll Township Police are leading the investigation with assistance from the Pennsylvania State Police Reconstruction Team and the PA District Attorney’s Forensic Unit. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
