SPRING CREEK, LOUISIANA — A 16-year-old has been arrested after investigators said he threw a large drink cup from a vehicle, shattering the windshield of a semi-truck and severely injuring the woman driving the truck.

The arrest is an update to an earlier investigation in which Tangipahoa Parish deputies were searching for a suspect after dashcam video captured a red vehicle with chrome rims passing the semi on Louisiana Highway 1054.

Driver’s Windshield Shattered on Highway 1054

The incident happened on Aug. 16 on Highway 1054 near Forbes Road in the Spring Creek area.

Authorities said the semi-truck driver was traveling along the highway when her windshield suddenly shattered.

Glass entered the cab, and the driver suffered a serious eye injury. Deputies previously said one of her eyes was badly damaged and that she was still receiving medical treatment.

Dashcam and Public Tips Helped Investigation

Investigators said dashcam video from the semi captured the vehicle believed to be involved.

The vehicle was initially described as a red four-door vehicle with chrome rims traveling in the opposite direction as it passed the semi.

Deputies later said public tips helped investigators identify a red pickup truck with chrome rims and track it to the Kentwood area.

Teen Accused of Throwing Large Drink Cup

According to investigators, the 16-year-old was a passenger in the truck.

Deputies said the teen allegedly threw a large drink cup out of the vehicle’s window, striking the oncoming semi and breaking the windshield.

The teen was arrested on one count of negligent injury and one count of simple criminal damage.

No additional details about the teenager’s identity were released because of his age.

Case Updated From Suspect Search to Arrest

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office had previously asked the public for help identifying the vehicle and suspect involved in the incident.

The case is now being handled as an arrest involving a juvenile suspect.
