FONTANA, CALIFORNIA — San Bernardino County firefighters used specialized equipment to systematically dismantle a crushed sedan piece by piece Saturday morning to free a driver who had become lodged underneath a loaded tractor-trailer on Interstate 10 east of the Sierra Avenue on-ramp in Fontana.

The driver, the sole occupant of the sedan, remained awake and responsive throughout the extrication. Once freed, the driver was transported to a local trauma center for treatment. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

San Bernardino County Fire Department shared dramatic footage of crews working around the crushed vehicle during the rescue.
