ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA — A tractor-trailer making a grocery delivery at the Foxchase Shopping Center accidentally struck an electrical service drop on August 25, pulling the lines away from the building and setting off a fire that spread to multiple dumpsters, a wooden fence, and a vehicle before firefighters could fully extinguish it.
Alexandria Fire Department responded to the rear of the shopping center for a reported outside electrical fire. The truck was making a delivery to Harris Teeter when it struck the service drop. The damaged, energized lines began arcing and ignited nearby combustibles. Firefighters were unable to fully quench the fire for approximately an hour while the power company worked to de-energize the lines.
The fire was ruled accidental. No injuries were reported and no buildings sustained fire damage.
