WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA — A truck driver traveling too fast for wet road conditions on westbound Interstate 78 lost control in heavy rain Monday evening, struck a guardrail, rolled over into an embankment, and leaked fuel into a nearby creek before being taken to Reading Hospital for evaluation.
State police said the crash occurred around 5:40 p.m. The bobtail tractor was traveling at a high rate of speed on the wet roadway when the driver lost control. The guardrail was damaged and fire crews responded to clean up fuel that spilled into a creek. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and no cargo was on the truck at the time. Video from the scene showed the tractor in pieces.
The right lane was closed from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. before reopening. The vehicle was towed.
The driver is to be charged with driving at an unsafe speed.
