40-Year-Old Tampa Truck Driver Killed After Losing Control of Tractor-Trailer, Hitting Guardrail, and Crashing Into Trees on Florida Turnpike

SUMTER COUNTY, FLORIDA — A Tampa truck driver was killed Sunday afternoon after his tractor-trailer left Florida’s Turnpike and crashed into several trees, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at approximately 5:10 p.m. near mile marker 306.5.

Tractor-Trailer Left Roadway

FHP said the tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on the Turnpike when the driver lost control for reasons that remain under investigation.

The truck entered the shoulder and struck a guardrail before continuing off the roadway.

The tractor-trailer then crashed into several trees and came to rest.

Driver Pronounced Dead at Scene

The driver, identified only as a 40-year-old man from Tampa, suffered fatal injuries.

FHP said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were reported to have been involved in the crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate what caused the driver to lose control.
