BOONE COUNTY, MISSOURI — A Peterbilt tractor-trailer hauling three live sea lions to the Missouri State Fair crashed into a concrete barrier on westbound Interstate 70 Thursday afternoon, injuring one of the four people on board while the sea lions came through without apparent injuries — though they were taken to the University of Missouri Veterinary Health Center for evaluation before resuming their trip to Sedalia.
Missouri State Highway Patrol responded just after 3 p.m. on August 13 to mile marker 133 on westbound I-70. The 2015 Peterbilt, driven by a 59-year-old Ohio resident, left the left side of the roadway for an undetermined reason and struck the concrete barrier. Four people were on the truck at the time. One was transported to University Hospital with moderate injuries. The driver was not hurt.
The three sea lions showed no apparent injuries but were taken to the MU Veterinary Health Center for a full evaluation. Troopers confirmed the sea lions have since resumed their journey to Sedalia for the Missouri State Fair.
