NYACK, NEW YORK — Dashcam video captured the moment a tractor-trailer struck an overpass and overturned onto its side on the southbound New York State Thruway near mile marker 16.4 in Nyack shortly after noon Monday, just before the Tappan Zee Bridge.
The crash happened at approximately 12:20 p.m. Video provided by witness Pat Cartalemi shows the truck hitting the overpass before rolling onto its side. Cartalemi said his own vehicle was not damaged. Whether the truck driver was injured was not immediately known.
Nyack Fire Department, Nyack EMS, Rockland Paramedics, and New York State Police responded to the scene. Heavy traffic was reported on the southbound Thruway as crews worked to clear the overturned truck. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Drivers in the area should also be aware that Route 9W will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday August 11 and Wednesday August 12 between Hickey Street in Piermont and the Shadyside Avenue/NYS Thruway Exit 10 interchange in South Nyack for pavement work. A signed detour will direct traffic via Routes 340, 303, and 59 in both directions.
