PINAL COUNTY, ARIZONA — Five commercial trucks were cited on August 5 after troopers conducting a targeted enforcement detail on Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Tucson found each one had been traveling in the left lane of an active construction zone for distances ranging from a mile and a half to over four miles in violation of posted right-lane-only requirements for commercial vehicles.
AZDPS said the lane violations caused noticeable traffic disruptions, bunching up vehicles behind the slow-moving trucks and leading to unsafe speed accelerations once the trucks moved back into the right lane — exactly the kind of situation that raises crash risk in a constrained construction zone.
Commercial trucks have been restricted to the right lane on portions of I-10 in Arizona for several years due to an ongoing widening project. Signage is posted throughout the corridor. AZDPS reminded all CMV drivers that when official signs are posted, trucks must stay in the right lane at all times within a construction zone.
