LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY — Two men inside a FedEx semi-truck were killed early Thursday morning after the truck failed to negotiate a curve on the exit ramp from southbound Interstate 65 onto Interstate 264 East, went off the left shoulder, and struck a large rock wall head-on.
Louisville Metro Police responded just after 5 a.m. on August 6. The initial investigation determined the FedEx semi was on the northbound exit ramp when it missed the curve, crossed off the left shoulder into the southbound ramp, and hit the rock wall. Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.
Ramps in both directions and portions of I-65 in the area were expected to be shut down for two to three hours while LMPD’s traffic unit investigated and crews cleared the scene.
FedEx issued a statement: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, and we wish those who were injured a speedy recovery. We are cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation, and any additional questions should be directed to them.”
The identities of the two men have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
