CHP Finds Trailer With Two Deflated Air Bags and One Missing During Commercial Vehicle Inspection; Places It Out of Service

COTTONWOOD, CALIFORNIA — The California Highway Patrol is reminding drivers and carriers about suspension safety after inspectors found a trailer with multiple air suspension issues during a commercial vehicle inspection.

CHP Cottonwood Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility said the trailer used an air suspension system, with air bags serving as the primary source of suspension.

Air Suspension Problems Found

According to CHP, one or more deflated air bags can place a trailer out of service.

During the inspection, officers found that the trailer had two deflated air bags.

A third air bag was completely missing, according to CHP.

Trailer Placed Out of Service

CHP said defects involving the trailer’s air suspension system are serious because the suspension helps support the load, maintain stability, and keep the vehicle operating safely.

The agency used the inspection as a reminder that commercial vehicle suspension components should be checked closely before and during trips.

No additional details about the carrier, driver, cargo, or inspection location were immediately released.
