MERRITT, BRITISH COLUMBIA — BC Highway Patrol is asking a tractor-trailer driver who may have witnessed a serious crash on the Coquihalla Highway to come forward.

The crash happened on July 30 at about 2:15 p.m. near Exit 286, just south of Merritt.

Pickup Left Roadway and Rolled Onto Side

When officers arrived, they found a white GMC Sierra pickup truck had gone off the side of the highway and flipped onto its side, according to BC Highway Patrol.

Police said the passenger in the pickup was seriously injured.

Truck Driver Reportedly Had Dashcam Footage

Investigators said witnesses told police that a man driving a tractor-trailer initially stopped at the scene and said he had dash-camera footage of the crash.

However, police said the tractor-trailer driver left before speaking with officers.

“His view of the crash, along with his dash-camera video, are important evidence,” Sgt. Michael McLaughlin said.

Police Renew Call for Witness

BC Highway Patrol first asked the public for information on Aug. 7 and renewed the request Monday morning.

Police said the tractor-trailer was hauling a dark-coloured trailer that may have been a marine container.

Anyone who knows who was driving the tractor-trailer is asked to call BCHP-Merritt at 250-378-4262 and refer to file (2100) 2026-2201.
